The Lady Behind The Name
Born and bred in the Republic of Singapore, Lydia Rahman is a multi-talented young lady who has achieved her own brand of inspirational successes from a tender age.

Having graduated from the prestigious National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law, Lydia Rahman is currently an LL.M. candidate at the highly-respected Queen’s University in Canada on a partial scholarship. Her coursework specialisations and thesis are in the areas of Human Rights, Comparative Human Rights and Constitutional Law.

Although a self-proclaimed “pseudo-scholar” and “aspiring geek” by day, she is in actual essence more of a writer, sportsman, poet, emcee and educator when she does not have her face buried in Hansards and uselessly-thick Law books.

Her Life Principles
Through charting her own path in life— breaking conventions and aggressively pushing boundaries that many never even dream of touching— Lydia Rahman is ever-questing for a more fulfilling state of being and to be a more significant contributor to society.

Having been on the road lesser-travelled for most of her life, Lydia Rahman has had many spills but picked herself up, dusted her bloodied knees and forged on with an even greater determination. Time and time again. She is of the belief that perhaps there is great utility in being a late developer, that to have graduated from the school of hard knocks with flying colours will help her much more than her Law degree(s) ever will.

Stubborn and resilient, she never gives up on anything… least of all herself. And she makes it her life mission to convince others to see life the same way too, for healing and mending are the things she’s wired to do. Human relations mean the world to her, and she believes in putting herself out for the ones dear to her no matter what.

As a result, those who know her well would say that Lydia Rahman is a superwoman by her own right and that she invented the term “maverick”!

Her Passions
Most commonly known for being a writer through and through, Lydia Rahman has been winning awards/prizes for writing competitions since she was a young girl. She then went on to write with an even greater ferocity as she was growing up, highly inspired by the events of her tumultuous teenage years, eventually publishing her own anthology of traditional Malay poetry called Pantun Temasek in 2004 with the grace of God… and NAC(National Arts Council) funding, of course!

Along with her accolade of being the very first 19-year old to launch a book of her own collection of Malay pantuns, Lydia Rahman is well-known to shoulder the burden of passionately championing underdog causes in all areas imaginable. This, along with her fierce patriotism and strong political views, can be attested to by her (highly controversial) newspaper Forum letters, some of which are featured on this website.

An avid sports enthusiast, she is fiercely competitive especially in tennis, basketball, soccer, go-kart racing, kayaking, sailing and the air rifle alongside other sports she loves like golf, water polo, rugby, skiing, whitewater rafting, powerboating and F1 racing. Having grown up immersed in team sports, she finds them important in her life for the discipline they instil in one’s being, developing character in ways unimaginable and throwing challenges that allow one to discover their true selves. That said, now that she lives in Canada, her passion is sailing at least thrice a week to escape the rigours of intellectual labour.

Yet at the end of this all though, to fully describe Lydia Rahman one would have to seek far beyond all the words in the English language and even look to other languages— such is her variety and depth!
